Fwd: Adventure Racing Updates

Well I for one don't mind one bit racing the Dusk to Dawn, in fact it never crossed my mind. I don't know what or if there is Church policy on this but for me the Sabbath starts when I wake up Sunday morning. I have never been one to stop an inappropriate Sunday activity at 12:00 AM, I personally have never had any qualms going to the store after midnight or anything like that. The Dusk to Dawn will probably start at 9:00 Saturday night and end 5:00 am Sunday morning, which is fine with me. That is just my opinion though and I don't know if it is right or wrong so I respect anyone who feels otherwise.

As for riding together, I think that Wednesday nights after YM is a good time for us to all get together on a regular basis, sure it will be dark, but we will be racing in the dark in the future. I am all up for some Sat. morning rides and such as well.

Scott

Here are some updates.

Dave will be joining us in the LBL. I believe Erik is stepping in for Chris who will be in Australia. I spoke with Erik yesterday, and he seems to be staying in shape, and is planning on getting a bike. Scott, you may want to come up with a bike workout for Erik, which should include some hills.

As a team, we should go ride Lyon's Club or some more aggressive trail once or twice in the coming weeks.

I was looking at the photos from some of our races (on BonkHard's website). None of them are great, but everyone is in some of them. There are no pictures as good as the one Scott sent, but they are worth taking a look at.

On a more serious note:

One thing that may help us pull away in the point series is competing in every event. Any team that does not do this, will be seriously hampered in their quest for the title. Unlike Xterra events that use your best three scores, BH uses all of them towards the total.

With that said, the Dusk to Dawn is obviously a night race - which we should practice for. I believe it runs from Saturday Night to Sunday Morning. This creates some possible dilemmas for some. Honestly we could still make it to a Sacrament meeting over in KC, though I don't think that is the point.

I know that I personally have a general rule not to race on Sundays, though I don't have a huge problem with it. At this point in my sporting life, I have never competed on a Sunday that I can remember. I have spoken with my wife about Sunday racing, and she has always said that a time may come where I felt it was necessary to race on a Sunday, and she was OK with that. Honestly it was a surprise to me, but she said "who knows, there might be a good missionary opportunity sometime, so don't rule it out". While I don't believe there is a good missionary opportunity involved in the Dusk to Dawn, I'm up for racing if everyone else is. If we can't put a team of 4 together, I won't race and will be perfectly OK with it. Realize that we are going to run into this issue if we ever decide to do a 36 hour race, or even a 3 day race.

I know that DtoD is not for several months, but I would like to start making plans now if possible. Any input? Any comments? Any Feelings?

Thanks,

Judd
